Founded as a “sound system” of tutors and students in an east London community workshop, the Asian Dub Foundation (ADF) has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, touring around the world for more than 10 years with their hybrid blend of rock, reggae, punk, hip-hop, traditional Indian classical music, and other world music sounds. Along with a unique sound, ADF helped to combat negative stereotypes of Asian youth in Britain by creating a new image of them as creative, musically skilled, and “hip”. FOUNDATION AND EMPIRE introduces the ADF and its members, their arsenal of instruments, their community educational foundation and political outlook to an audience hungry for music that inspires dance, thought and action.
